Who is Kalenda for?

Kalenda is sold exclusively to businesses and organisations (B2B). Private individuals are welcome to self-host Kalenda free of charge under the open-source licence (AGPL-3.0).

Is Kalenda really open source?

Yes. The entire source code is on GitHub under the GNU AGPL-3.0 (github.com/cloud-services-ag/kalenda). You can fork, self-host and modify Kalenda — as long as you publish your changes under AGPL-3.0, it's entirely free of charge.

How does Kalenda differ from Calendly or Cal.com?

Calendly is proprietary US cloud. Cal.com is open source but runs primarily as US SaaS and doesn't use CalDAV natively. Kalenda is Swiss, has CalDAV as a first-class citizen, is GDPR-by-design and you can self-host it — on your Swiss server, in your RZO setup or with us in Gais.

Do I need technical know-how to self-host?

If you know Docker or Kubernetes: yes, easy. We provide an official image, a Helm chart and example manifests for ArgoCD. If you'd rather not operate it yourself, our SaaS at CHF 29/month (unlimited calendars) is the right choice.

Where is my data on the SaaS plan?

Accepted Answer

In the Eastern Switzerland data centre (RZO) in Gais, Appenzell Ausserrhoden — Tier IV, ISO 27001, Swiss jurisdiction. Single-tenant: you get your own Kubernetes namespace and your own database, no co-mingling with other customers.

What happens if cloud services ag shuts down the service?

You can switch to self-hosting at any time — the code is open source and belongs to everyone. On request we deliver a full data export (CalDAV events + DB dump). There is no vendor lock-in.

Which CalDAV servers are supported?

Accepted Answer

All CalDAV-compliant servers. We actively test with OpenDesk (ZenDiS), Open-Xchange, Nextcloud, iCloud, Posteo, mailbox.org, FastMail, FreeIPA and Radicale. If your backend speaks RFC 4791, it works.

Can we embed Kalenda in our product and sell it to our customers?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with an OEM licence. AGPL-3.0 would require you to publish your entire software under AGPL too — probably not what you want. With our OEM licence you receive a proprietary right of use without copyleft. Terms on request at kalenda@cloud-services-ag.com.

Is Kalenda GDPR and Swiss DPA compliant?

Yes, by design. No US cloud, no third-party cookies, no external tracking scripts. Plausible (self-hosted, no cookies) for aggregate analytics, Altcha instead of Google reCAPTCHA, fonts from our own server, data stored in Switzerland or the EU. The privacy policy and the processing register (DPA Art. 12) are included as templates.

How does VAT work?

Swiss customers: we invoice with 8.1 % Swiss VAT. EU customers with a valid VAT-ID: reverse charge (no VAT on the invoice, you settle it in your own country).

What is demo mode?

If you want to try Kalenda without a CalDAV setup: set KALENDA_DEMO_MODE=on. Bookings live in memory only, no real calendars are contacted, no emails are sent. Perfect for evaluation or training environments.

What is the uptime?

Accepted Answer

For our SaaS we guarantee 99.9 % SLA (business days and weekends). Planned maintenance windows are announced at least 7 days in advance and usually run between 02:00 and 06:00 CET.

Question 13

Can I extend Kalenda with more languages?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Translations live as JSON files under messages/. Add messages/it.json or messages/fr.json, extend i18n/routing.ts, and you have another language. On request we'll do it for a small flat fee.
